Alexandra Lucas Coelho (Lisbon, 1967) is a journalist and Portuguese writer.[1][2]. She has been a journalist since 1987.[3]

Life and career

Alexandra Lucas Coelho was born in Lisbon in 1967, she was almost born on Sal Island, in Cape Verde[4].

Coelho studied theatre at IFICT. She graduated in Communication Sciences from NOVA University of Lisbon, and worked as a correspondent for the Público newspaper, having traveled troughout the Middle East and Central Asia. This experience was portrayed in her first books, the travel reports Oriente Próximo and Caderno Afegão.

She published her first novel, E a noite roda in 2012[5]

She lived in Jerusalem and in Rio de Janeiro from 2011 to 2014.

Work in the Middle East

In 2001, Coelho began traveling regularly to the Middle East and Central Asia, and between 2005 and 2006 she spent six months in Jerusalem as a foreign correspondent for Público. This was the basis of her first two books, Oriente Próximo and Caderno Afegão.
