Alice Evelyn Yang is a American novelist and short story writer based in New York.[1]

Career

Her debut novel, A Beast Slinks Towards Beijing (ISBN 978-0-06-341929-2 Search this book on .), is a magical realist family saga that spans generations, exploring intergenerational trauma, colonialism, and fate through the lens of a Chinese family's history, from the Japanese occupation of Manchuria to the Cultural Revolution and modern-day New York.[2][3]

Yang's shorter works are published in Michigan Quarterly Review, Apogee, The Rumpus, and AAWW’s The Margins, among others.[4][5]

She is the recipient of the 2022-23 Jesmyn Ward Prize from Michigan Quarterly Review (MQR). She was awarded for her short story "Spilt Milk," which appeared in the Summer 2023 issue.[6]

Personal life

Yang is from Norfolk, Virginia. She is of Chinese descent.[7]
