The All Primary Teachers Association (APTA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of primary school teachers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Its primary focus is to improve the working conditions and professional development of primary school teachers.[1] APTA was founded in 2007 by Malak Khalid Khan, who also served as the first president of the organization until his death in 2018.[2] The current president of the organizion is Aziz Ullah Khan since 2018.[3]
Advocacy and Protests[edit]
In recent years, the APTA has been actively involved in protests to demand better working conditions for primary school teachers. In October 2022, over 100 teachers were arrested by the police during a protest staged by the APTA. The protest aimed to demand the upgradation of Primary School Teacher (PST) posts from BPS-12 to BPS-15, promotion for senior teachers, and restoration of two allowances granted in 2011 and 2015.[4][5][6]
Demands and Goals[edit]
The APTA has several demands that it seeks to achieve through peaceful means and negotiation with the government. These demands include the upgradation of PST posts, promotion for senior teachers, restoration of allowances, changes in the current service structure of primary teachers, and promotion of headmasters to Grades 16 and 17.[4][5][6]
Dissatisfaction with the Government's Response[edit]
The APTA has expressed dissatisfaction with the government's response to its demands, stating that the government has not negotiated with the education department or the organization. The APTA president, Azizullah Khan, has also claimed that the government's commitments were verbal and not written, leading the organization to continue its protests.[4][5][6]
Despite facing opposition from the government and police, the APTA remains committed to fighting for the rights of primary school teachers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The organization hopes to achieve its goals through peaceful means and negotiation but has also stated that it will launch a campaign if its demands are not met.[4][5][6]
