Allah Ditta Lonay Wala (Urdu: اللہ دتہ لونے والا; 4 November 1957 – 29 January 2021) was a Pakistani Punjabi folk singer. He was widely known for his high-pitched voice and energetic renditions of Punjabi wedding and traditional songs.[1][2]
Early life
Allah Ditta was born on 4 November 1957 in Lonay Wala, a village in Chiniot District, Punjab, Pakistan. From a young age, he was drawn to Punjabi folk traditions and began singing at local festivals and weddings.
Career
He rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s with folk hits such as Shaaman Pei Gaiaan, Ticketaan Do Ley Lei and Main Cham Cham Nachdi Phiraan.[3] His powerful and high-pitched voice made him one of the most sought-after singers at Punjabi weddings.
In later decades, he released numerous singles, EPs, and digital albums. Among his more recent works was the EP Majboor Ho Gaiya (2019), featuring the tracks Majboor Ho Gaiya and Ramzan.[4] His catalog was later digitised and made available on streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, and YouTube Music.
Musical style and themes
Lonay Wala specialised in Punjabi folk and wedding music. His songs often celebrated rural traditions, relationships, and festive rituals.
Death
Allah Ditta Lonay Wala died on 29 January 2021 at the age of 63, in Chiniot, Punjab, after a prolonged illness.[5]
Recognition
He was remembered as one of the great exponents of Punjabi folk singing. Tributes poured in from cultural organisations and fellow artists, who praised his contribution to preserving traditional Punjabi music.[1]
