Chand Ali Khan is a UK-based Pakistani artist, musician, and leader of Chand Ali Khan Qawwal & Party, an international Qawwali and Bollywood group, primarily performing in the art of Qawwali, the devotional music of the Sufis.[1][2]

Background and Career[edit]

Born in Pakistan, Chand Ali Khan had his first public performance at the age of 13 at his International School Sufi Day.[3] Initiated and trained under the Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Memorial Academy UK, he was appointed the Head of the Qawwali party with the permission of Haji Muhammad Iqbal Naqeebi (Secretary & Manager of the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) to carry the flame of Qawwali throughout Europe.[3] Chand Ali Khan is also the ‘shagird’, or disciple, of world-renowned Ustad Iqbal Hassan Khan, influenced by the legendary and authentic style of raw qawwali as popularised by the legend Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.[3]

Today, Chand Ali Khan Qawwal & Party are regarded as the leading lights of qawwali in Europe, representing the 700-year old sacred art. Chand Ali Khan is widely credited for his virtuoso talents in Qawwali and Naat to a range of international audiences. Chand Ali Khan has been rigorously trained under some of the legends of the music industry. Coupled with the disciplined training of the Party, this generates a fiery and compelling experience, as enjoyed by audiences around the world.[3]

Hailed as some of the world's finest musicians,[4] Chand Ali Khan and his Party have performed at a number of nationwide and international platforms including on BBC Radio 3,[4] Godiva Festival,[5] The London Mela,[2] the Mayor of London Eid Festival,[6] the University of Oxford, University College London, King's College London, the London Halal Food Festival, Glasgow Mela, Newham Under The Stars[7] and the Pakistani Music and Media Awards.[3]

Khan recently featured in Riz Ahmed's BAFTA-nominated independent film, Mogul Mowgli, where he composed a brand-new qawwali track for the feature, named 'Mein Sharabi'. The film went on to win Best Music at the British Independent Film Awards 2021.[8]

Charity work[edit]

Khan is a strong supporter of giving back to the community and champions a number of campaigns to help the needy and vulnerable. He has supported SKT Welfare, Penny Appeal, the Shahid Afridi Foundation and INSAAN through nationwide tours to support water and orphan projects.[9][10]
