Allyn Walker is an American criminal justice researcher and author. They are known for their research relating to child sexual abuse and their advocacy for preventing child sexual abuse by providing mental health treatment for people who are attracted to minors.[1] Their book A Long, Dark Shadow (University of California Press, 2021), contains interviews that Walker conducted with people who are sexually attracted to minors but have not acted upon those desires.[2][3][4]

Walker has worked as a counselor for victims of sexual assault.[1] In 2019, after completing their PhD, Walker was hired in as an assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice at Old Dominion University. They were placed on administrative leave in 2021 due to concerns about their safety, following the publicisiation of an interview in which Walker used the term "minor-attracted people", which many considered to destigmatize child sex abuse, which resulted in Walker receiving death threats. Walker stated in response “The idea that I’m somehow condoning child sexual abuse is absolutely outrageous”.[5] Walker received support from the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors.[1] Walker subsequently resigned and then in 2022 joined Johns Hopkins University's Moore Center for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse as a postdoctoral fellow.[6][7][8] Walker identifies as transgender and uses "they/them" pronouns.[8]
