Albert Jerry Cristoforo (born July 21, 1951) is an American research scientist, academician, and environmentalist. He serves as vice chairman and adjunct professor at the blockchain research center at Zhejiang University in China. He founded the computer science program at Zhejiang University in 1980.[1][2]

He also pioneered State Street Corporation's partnership with Zhejiang University in 2000. He is a senior advisor to two Chinese boards, including the China Foreign Exchange Trading Center and the Shanghai Finance College International Research Centre.[3]

Early life and education[edit]

Cristoforo graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics. In 2008, he was awarded an honorary degree in Chinese language proficiency by the International College of Education at Zhejiang University.[4][3]

Cristoforo worked as a research associate at the IBM Cambridge Scientific Center from 1969 until June 1974, when he joined Interactive Data Corporation. He remained at IDC for eleven years before joining State Street in Boston and Hangzhou, China where he served for 25 years.[5]

Career[edit]

Cristoforo is a board member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.[6]

He is the former vice president and CTO of State Street Corporation. During his tenure, he led integration of the State Street / Zhejiang University Technology Center, acquired in January 2005.[7][4]

Cristoforo is a chief scientist at Insigma Hengtian Software LTD, a joint program between State Street and Insigma Corporation.[1]

He was featured in CIO Magazine article on State Street Zhejiang University Technology Center in 2005.[8]

He is also an adjunct professor at the University College Cork in Ireland. His research is focused on building a platform for enhancing carbon efficiency, monitoring carbon emissions, and other related matters.[9] He has remained a senior lecturer at the computer science department of Boston University.
