Bouteille d'Almaza

Almaza (Brasserie Almaza S.A.L.) is a Lebanese brewery and beer brand.[1] established in 1933. L'Orient-Le Jour called it "emblematic" and "iconic".[2]

The brewery produces and sells the beer brands Almaza, Almaza Light, Almaza Special Dark, REX, the non-alcoholic malt beverage range Laziza, and also distributes the brand Heineken.[citation needed]

It is exported to Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Australia and the Middle East.[citation needed]

History

The brewery was founded in 1933 in Beirut by the Jabre, Comaty and Angelopoulu families, and was initially called Brasserie Franco-Libano-Syrienne [3]. The Jabre family was the main shareholder, consisting of family members Michel, Najib and Assaad Jabre [2]

In 1960, the brewery established a partnership with Amstel Beer.[citation needed]

In 1968, the Heineken group acquired Amstel.[citation needed]

In 1990, the brewery survived the Lebanese war; under the Jabre family ownership, the brewery and facilities were restored and modernized.[citation needed]

In 2003, majority ownership passed to Heineken.[citation needed]

In 2021, Philippe Jabre became the majority owner of Almaza Brewery.[4] Heineken remained a minority shareholder. [5]
