Alya Michelson is a singer, music writer, mother, and philanthropist. Alyas music style incorporates multiple styles and people typically have a hard time trying to classify her sound. She is married to Gary Michelson, a famous inventor of medical equipment and they live in Los Angeles with their three children.[1]
Early life and schooling[edit]
Alya was born and raised in Russia, in the beginning she wanted to be an artist even though she excelled in music school and at a school for gifted children. When Alya went to College, her parents wanted her to abandon music to pursue a career that was more “realistic”, so she had enrolled in a journalism program at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and studied the field of journalism. She did excellent work as a Journalist and her career took off, she became a special correspondent for the largest State news agency, RIA Novosti. Shortly after she moved on to be a national anchor at VESTI, where she covered domestic and international news. Later, she used her expertise as a journalist to work in public relations as the spokesperson for the vice chairman of a State legislative body in the ruling assembly of Russia.[2][3][4]
Not long after she got married and although her husband made her happy, Alya felt like she was wasting her voice on something that did not bring fulfillment. Around 2012, Alya decided to make real changes in her life. Living in Los Angeles with her husband, she started to change her life around and she decided to work on her music. Alya combined what she learned in college and life experiences with her musical talents and she created Alya, the performer. Alya made a statement about her musical career and she does not consider herself to be a solo artist but more of a project director, Alya’s music, visuals, and performances are collaborative by design. in her spare time, she spends a lot of her time helping her husband manage Family Charitable foundations, volunteers in her children's school. She I still loves journalism, but now she says she wakes up every day with a happy smile.[5][6][7]
