Amala Rose Kurian (born on December 8th) is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Malayalam and Tamil movies. Miss Kurian began her career as a VJ and then contested on the on the TV show Vivel Active Fair Big Break 2010 where the eminent Malayalam film director Lal Jose sought to discover a new starlet for his next film. Miss Kurian was one of the finalists selected from the show and was also the youngest contestant. She made her debut with Malayalam film Theevram (2012) and soon followed with her Tamil debut in Oru Kanavu Pola (2017). After a nine-year hiatus, Miss Kurian made a successful comeback with her performance in Bheeshma Parvam (2022). Kurian played the role of Steffy, the love interest of Farhaan Faasil's character, Paul Anjooti in the film, through which she caught the limelight and was acclaimed both critically and commercially.

Early life and education[edit]

Amala Rose Kurian was born on December 8th into a Christian family in Kottayam, Kerala. She attended Assumption College (Autonomous, Changanassery) and majored in English Language and Literature. Following it, she pursued her master's degree in Psychology (Counseling) from the Indira Gandhi National Open University, UAE.

She is an actress, TV host, model, and is a winner of numerous accolades. She has had an ascending career with multitudinous recognition and laurels, paving way to a successful and bodacious career.

Miss Kurian aspired to be an actress from her early days. She has been an enthusiastic participant since childhood in school plays and shows. She started working toward her dream at an early age and kicked off her career in 2009 as a Video Jockey and from there on, contested in various TV shows, acted in various Malayalam soap operas and films. Realizing that cinema is her passion and facing camera is her fondness, she has kept herself busy with multiple projects.

Career[edit]

In 2010, Amala Rose Kurian made her first screen appearance in Vivel Active Fair Big Break 2010, a reality show broadcast on Asianet. The show sought to find the female lead for Malayalam's prominent film director Lal Jose's next film. Kurian was among the finalists and was noted for being the youngest contestant. In 2011 she participated in a reality show called Golden Five, broadcast on Surya TV.

In 2012, Kurian made her cinematic debut with the Malayalam film Theevram (2012), directed by Roopesh Peethambaran. Later she was cast to portray the female protagonist in Oru Kanavu Pole (2017), a Tamil movie directed by V.C.Vijayasankar. She gained much critical acclaim for her performance in this movie and later appeared as the leading lady in the film Kuthoosi (2019) directed by Siva Sakthi and produced by R.K.Rajasekharan Nair.

Amala has also worked as assistant director of the Malayalam film Thilothama (2015), following which she made her playback singing debut for the film's title track, composed by Deepak Dev.

In 2013, she made her television debut with a lead role in the soap opera Padhasaram on Asianet. Her character, Urmila Chandran, received positive acclaim and was a catalyst for her career. She was also one of the participants on Nestle Munch Stars 2013 broadcast on Asianet. Kurian has hosted shows on various leading Malayalam channels like Surya TV, Asianet, Flowers TV, etc. She hosted the popular show Chill Bowl on Asianet and later turned host for Celluloid- Malayalam Movie Review Show on Surya TV, as well as the Star War Adventure Game Show- Malayalam version. She was also the host Comedy Utsavam special episode on Flowers TV. Most recently, she also hosted the sensational live show amidst the pandemic crisis on Surya music called Ishq Live (2020), which garnered her major public attention and acclaim as a Video Jockey. Icing on the cake, she has also interviewed some of the most prestigious Mollywood personalities and actors like Mohanlal, Mammootty, Tovino, etc. as part of her television career.

Later that year, she appeared in the famous crime-drama series by Flowers TV titled Koodathayi, in which she played the role of an 11th grade student named ‘Joyce’. Following a nine-year break, Miss Kurian appeared on the silver screen with Malayalam blockbuster Bheeshma Parvam (2022), directed by Amal Neerad. She played the character Steffy who was the love interest of Farhaan Faasil as Paul Anjooti. The film earned her critical acclaim. She has her next release titled Panthrandu scheduled for release on June 10th, 2022 in the pipeline, along with many other projects.
