Amanda Kirby
Amanda Kirby is an English actress. Born in Kew, Surrey, she has worked in television, theatre, and film.
Career[edit]
Raised in Richmond, London, Kirby joined the Corona Academy of Stage Training in 1970. She soon started to get work in commercials, films, and light entertainment television. Kirby's breakthrough role came with the Scottish Television production The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie [1], which was based on the 1961 novel by Muriel Spark and aired in early 1978. Acting alongside Geraldine McEwan in the title role, Kirby's performance as Jenny Gray, one of the unorthodox teacher's favored coterie of schoolgirls, was praised as "exceptionally good." [2] Kirby then went on to play prominent roles in a number of television drama series, including The Clifton House Mystery, [3] The Strange Affair of Adelaide Harris, The Swish of the Curtain, and Echoes of Louisa.
Kirby appeared in both the 1980 BBC Play for Today production and the 1981 stage version of the Andrew Carr play Instant Enlightenment Including V.A.T..[4] In 1983, she played the role of Louise Kendall in the BBC adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's My Cousin Rachel. [5]
Kirby returned to acting after a break with a role in the 2018 production of Widowers' Houses by George Bernard Shaw staged at Shaw's Corner in Hertfordshire.
