Amanda Kirby
Amanda Kirby is an English actress born in Kew, Surrey. She has worked across television, theatre, and film.
Career
Kirby was raised in Richmond, London, and joined the Corona Academy of Stage Training in 1970. She began her career in commercials, films, and light entertainment television. Her breakthrough role was in the Scottish Television production The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie [1], based on Muriel Spark's 1961 novel and aired in early 1978. Kirby played Jenny Gray, one of the unorthodox teacher's favoured schoolgirls, and her performance was praised as "exceptionally good" [2].
She went on to play prominent roles in television series such as The Clifton House Mystery [3], The Strange Affair of Adelaide Harris, and Echoes of Louisa. Kirby also appeared in both the 1980 BBC Play for Today production and the 1981 stage version of Instant Enlightenment Including V.A.T. [4]. In 1983, she played Louise Kendall in the BBC adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's My Cousin Rachel [5].
After a break, Kirby returned to acting in 2018 with a role in Widowers' Houses by George Bernard Shaw, staged at Shaw's Corner in Hertfordshire.
