Amica Senior Lifestyles is a Canadian company that offers housing, care and services for seniors at 31 senior living residences in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. Amica residences provide different senior care options such as Independent Living (IL), Assisted Living (AL), and Memory Care (MC).[1] with specially designed programs and spaces for seniors living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.[2]
History[edit]
Amica was founded in 1996. In 2015, Amica Mature Lifestyles was acquired by BayBridge Seniors Housing[3],[4] an investee of the Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan. In 2018, the integrated company rebranded as Amica Senior Lifestyles, which designs, develops and manages luxury seniors' residences.
Amica's head office is based in Toronto, Ontario. The company's portfolio includes 31 owned retirement residences, two managed residences, and a pipeline of locations in development under construction. Buildings include amenities such as fitness centres, movie theatres and outdoor spaces. As of January 2022, Amica employs over 4,500 staff across Canada. Most of the homes are located in Southern Ontario.[5]
COVID-19 response[edit]
Amica facilities experienced outbreaks of the virus. Notable outbreaks occurred in Victoria, BC[6] and in Windsor, Ontario[7]. Amica worked with health organizations such as Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre to help with vaccine studies.[8]
Corporate giving[edit]
In 2003, Amica established the Amica Helping Hands Charity, a registered Canadian charity, to support Canadian seniors in need by providing them with goods, funds and services. Amica Helping Hands Charity distributes gift baskets to vulnerable seniors[9][10] and donates to organizations such as Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, the William Osler Health System Foundation and Lions Gate Hospital Foundation[11][12]
