Amila Karunanayake (also known as Amila Chinthana Karunanayake)(අමිල කරුණානායක) [Sinhala]) is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema and television, a model, and a fashion designer.

Personal life

Amila, who was born to Ariya Karunanayake, a businessman, and Suneetha Bandara, a Vice Principal, received his education from Nalanda College, Colombo. While at school, he was an athlete who held the all-island Long Jump record in the under-15 and under-17.[1]

Acting career, moving to cinema and teledrama

After clinching the Man of the Year title in 2007 and representing Sri Lanka at the Mr International pageant in Malaysia.[2] In 2011, he also represented Sri Lanka at the Manhunt International in Korea.[3] Since then, having taken part in commercials and music videos, Amila debuted onto cinema by acting in Nalaka Vithanage's Rupantharana film, playing the role of 'Haren'. Also, Amila had played roles in Porisadaya, Blockbuster,[4] Sikuru Yogaya, Goree (film) and Face to Face. Amila also played a triple role in Bennet Ratnayake's teledrama Palingu Piyapath. He took on the lead roles in two historical dramas directed by Sanath Abeysekera titled Urumayaka Aragalaya and Mahaviru Pandu. He is also part of the cast in Sansara Sihine, which is telecasting on ITN. His latest film, Harsha Udakanda's Kabadi, has hit the wide screen. Amila portrays the role of Manuranga, director and the producer Nishantha Jayawardane.[5]

International filmography

Amila acted as an obsessive lover in award-winning Maldivian director, Seaxan Ali’s film, 'Kaushi' in 2018. Later, in 2020, he again acted in the movie, 'Soul', directed by Seaxan Ali, made for the SAARC Film Awards 2020.[6]
