Ananya Pal is an Indian Chartered accountant[1] turned author, who primarily writes in English and Bangla. She is the author of 5 published works including novels, collections of short stories & novellas[2]. Her work has also been featured in several notable magazines & newspapers.

Early and Personal Life

Ananya Pal was born in Ranchi to the Late Satyabrata Pal and Jayanti Pal. She grew up in the suburbs of North Kolkata, an only child. Her father was an accountant by profession, and ran a theatre group called 'Theatre Corner' alongside his job at Jessop & Company and her mother was a Geography teacher at a high school in Ranchi and Kolkata for a brief period.

Ananya Pal is married to Dilip Pal[3], who is also a Chartered accountant by profession, and together they have one daughter Adisree Pal.

Pal has lived in several countries worldwide including India, Bangladesh, Thailand[4] & Kenya.

Education and Career

Pal completed her schooling from Christ Church Girl's School in Kolkata until grade 10, following which she completed her final two years of high school from Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration. She obtained her B.Com. degree from the same institution, following which she enrolled into the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India program and obtained the certification in November 1995, becoming a professional licensed CA. Since 1995, Pal has worked in a number of MNCs including Deloitte, CLP Group, Gates Corporation[1] etc. She has also worked as a professor at Eastern Institute of Management Kolkata teaching the module 'Accounting for Managers' briefly in 2008. She is currently a partner in Kolkata based accounting services firm P.K. De Associates.

Literary Career

She has had a passion for writing all her life, but had initially only treated it as a hobby. Pal started pursuing her passion for writing in 2013, having taken a break from her profession as a Chartered accountant. She created a blog as a first step of her literary career where she published short stories primarily in English. The blog mostly comprised of short travelogues as well as short stories in the genres of Historical Fiction and Contemporary fiction. In 2015, Pal started writing short stories in Bangla, her mother tongue, as well; which began getting published in established Bengali magazines & newspapers[5]. Subsequently Pal has published 5 books (novels, collections of short stories and novellas) and is an established author in the Bengali language circuit.
