Andaz Delhi is a lifestyle hotel operated by Hyatt Hotels Corporation under its Andaz brand. It is located in the Hospitality District of Aerocity, New Delhi, India, in proximity to Indira Gandhi International Airport. Opened in December 2016, it was the first Andaz property in India and the sixteenth globally.[1][2]

The hotel comprises 401 guest rooms, each featuring a distinct artwork corresponding to one of the "401 Reasons to Fall in Love with Delhi," a cultural concept documented in a book available in every room. The property includes three dining venues, a spa, an outdoor swimming pool, and over 37,000 square feet (3,400 m2) of meeting and event space. The hotel holds LEED Gold certification and operates as a zero liquid discharge facility.[3]

History

The Andaz brand was established by Hyatt Hotels Corporation to offer locally inspired hospitality experiences in urban destinations. The brand name derives from the Hindi word meaning "personal style," reflecting the brand's emphasis on individuality and integration of local cultural identity into each property.[4] Prior to the opening of Andaz Delhi, the brand had established properties in cities including London, New York, and Tokyo.

Andaz Delhi opened in December 2016, marking the brand's first presence in India. At the time of its opening, it was the sixteenth Andaz property worldwide.[5] The hotel was designed by Bauer Latoza Studio and Virgile & Partners, with an interior programme incorporating references to Delhi's historical and contemporary urban context.[6]

A restored Hindustan Ambassador automobile, referred to as the "Purple Lady," is displayed at the hotel's main entrance.

Architecture and design

The hotel was designed by Bauer Latoza Studio, responsible for the architectural concept, and Virgile & Partners, responsible for the interior design. The design draws on elements of Delhi's layered urban history, incorporating references to the city's architectural heritage and contemporary culture throughout public spaces and guest areas.

Each of the 401 guest rooms is assigned an individual identity through a dedicated artwork linked to one of the "401 Reasons to Fall in Love with Delhi." These artworks vary across rooms and are intended to reflect distinct aspects of the city. A selection of rooms offer views of the runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport.[7]

Location

Andaz Delhi is situated within the Hospitality District of Aerocity, a planned commercial and hospitality zone located between New Delhi and Gurugram, adjacent to Indira Gandhi International Airport. The surrounding area includes commercial developments such as Worldmark Aerocity and Yashobhoomi convention centre. Retail destinations including DLF Emporio, DLF Promenade, and Ambience Mall are located within a short distance. Cultural sites such as Qutb Minar and Mehrauli Archaeological Park are accessible from the property.[8]

Facilities

Accommodation

The hotel comprises 401 guest rooms. Each room is designed with a distinct theme corresponding to an individual entry in the "401 Reasons to Fall in Love with Delhi" concept, and features artwork specific to that theme. The property accepts guests travelling with pets.[9]

Dining

Andaz Delhi operates three food and beverage venues:

  • AnnaMaya is an all-day dining restaurant and food hall offering a menu based on seasonal produce and globally influenced cuisine, with an emphasis on sustainable sourcing and locally grown ingredients.[10][11]
  • Soul Pantry is a wellness-oriented dining space with a menu focused on nutritionally conscious food, incorporating traditional grains and seasonally sourced ingredients. It operates under women's leadership.[12][13]
  • Juniper Bar specialises in gin-based beverages and features a collection of house-infused gins alongside botanical-inspired cocktails. The bar is designed around a communal counter format.[14]

Wellness and recreation

The hotel operates Andaz Spa, which offers wellness treatments designed around principles of holistic balance. The property also features an outdoor swimming pool set within landscaped grounds, a fitness centre equipped with cardiovascular and strength-training apparatus, and sauna and steam facilities.[15]

Business and events

Andaz Delhi provides over 37,000 square feet (3,400 m2) of meeting and event space. This includes Business Studios designed with flexible, open-plan layouts suitable for corporate meetings, conferences, and social events. A Business Lounge is available for individual working guests. The property also contains a pillarless ballroom with a reported capacity of up to 1,500 guests, used for weddings, receptions, and large-scale gatherings.[16]

Art and cultural elements

Art installations are incorporated throughout the public spaces of Andaz Delhi, featuring works by Indian and international artists that explore themes of memory, urban heritage, and cultural identity.

A prominent atrium installation was created by South Asian cultural designer Rajeev Sethi, drawing on the historic gates of Delhi, in particular Kashmiri Gate. The work reflects the gradual disappearance of these structures and was produced with the participation of Kashmiri artisans.[17]

Other notable installations include:

  • Memory Cupboard of Delhi – To Be Continued by B.M. Kamat, a structured work addressing the coexistence of tradition and modernity.
  • Tower of Victory by artists Tanmoy and Mehula, drawing from the Kawad narrative tradition of Bhilwara, Rajasthan, in which stories are conveyed through layered painted panels.
  • The Shrine, an interactive installation incorporating sound and audience participation.
  • A Tea Garden artwork composed of bricks, positioned outdoors to weather over time, referencing Delhi's architectural evolution.
  • A sculptural pomegranate installation near AnnaMaya, referencing motifs of fertility and abundance in Indian culinary and cultural tradition.

The "401 Reasons to Fall in Love with Delhi" concept is also expressed through a book of the same name written by travel writer Fiona Caulfield, placed in every guest room. The book categorises Delhi across twelve thematic sections including architecture, food, culture, devotion, shopping, and natural spaces.[18][19]

Sustainability initiatives

Andaz Delhi holds LEED Gold certification and operates as a zero liquid discharge facility, with all wastewater processed and recycled on-site. The hotel operates an on-site water plant that produces still and sparkling water supplied in reusable glass bottles, reducing reliance on single-use plastic.[20][21]

Food waste generated by the hotel's kitchens is processed through an on-site composting system. A portion of the property's energy is sourced from renewable supplies including solar and hydropower. Sustainability considerations are also applied to food sourcing practices and to energy systems within guest rooms.[22]

Project Iffat, a social enterprise focused on recycling used soap and supporting women affected by HIV/AIDS through skills training and income generation, has received donations of used soap from the hotel as part of its recycling programme.[23]

Community engagement

As part of Hyatt's global community engagement programmes, Andaz Delhi has participated in a number of social initiatives. During Hyatt's Global Day of Gratitude, the hotel donated bedding to the Earth Saviours Foundation, an organisation supporting elderly and differently abled residents.[24]

In connection with Hyatt's Global Month of Service, the hotel has hosted blood donation camps conducted in partnership with Rotary Blood Bank.[25] The hotel has also collaborated with the Robin Hood Army to prepare and distribute meals to underserved communities in New Delhi.[26]
