Andrea Crooms (nee: Andrea Poniecki) (born November 20, 1979) is an American lawyer and environmentalist. They have served as the Director of the Department of the Environment for Prince George's County, Maryland since June 2021.[1][2] Crooms is a candidate for Congressional Representative in the 2024 Democratic Primary for Maryland's 5th congressional district [3] [4]
Department of Environment, Prince George's County[edit]
As the Director of the Department of Environment[5], Crooms is responsible for County programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling[6], and waste management[7], litter prevention[8], animal services [9], and pet adoption, as well as the development and implementation of Climate initiatives [10] [11] in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. They also serve on the Board of Directors for District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority, the water utility for Washington, DC[12] and as the County's environmental representative to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) where they serve on the Climate, Energy and Environment Policy Committee (CEEPC), Chesapeake Bay & Water Resources Policy Committee (CBPC),[13] and the Anacostia Watershed Steering Committee (AWSC).[14]
Political Campaigns[edit]
Crooms is a candidate in the 2024 Democratic Primary for Maryland's 5th congressional district.[15] They were previously elected as the Democratic Party Delegate for Bernie Sanders for Washington, D.C. District 2 for the 2020 election.[16][17] However, Sanders did not get enough of the vote and all of the democratic delegates went for Joe Biden.[18]

Andrea Crooms was born in Wilmington, Delaware. Their parents were Francis Poniecki[19] and Dorothy Poniecki.[20] They graduated from Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware in 1997.[21]
