Andrzej S. Nowak is an civil engineer and thee Elton and Lois G. Huff Eminent Scholar Chair and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Auburn University.[1]
He was an interim chairperson in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2009 to 2011. Also, he was a professor at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1979–2004).
He is an author and co-author of more than 25 books and monographs, about 150 academic articles, and 300 published papers delivered at specialist science conferences. So far he has been a dissertation supervisor of more than 40 doctorate theses. He had a major contribution to structural reliability and load and resistance factor design philosophy.
He is a co-author of the textbook Reliability of Structures, and a pioneer in the field of structural reliability.

Nowak received his PhD from the Politechnika Warszawska in Warsaw, Poland, in 1975. His principal research interests are analysis and design of structures, evaluation of existing structures, risk and reliability analysis of structures.
Career[edit]
He is a chairperson in civil and environmental engineering at Auburn University. He was serving as Robert W. Brightfelt professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Nebraska (Civil Engineering) from 2005 to 2013, while he was an interim chair from 2009 to 2011. Also, he is an emeritus professor of University of Michigan, where he served there for more than 25 years from 1979 to 2004.
He is an author and co-author of more than 20 books and monographs, more than 100 academic articles, and 250 published papers delivered at specialist science conferences. So far he has been a dissertation supervisor of more than 30 doctorate theses. His major is reliability theory and its application in civil engineering.
