aniSearch aniSearch is a collaborative database with anime, manga and Asian film and television productions at its core, including the people who contribute to them.

Content[edit]

aniSearch is a free community database that collects various information about anime, manga, film, and TV productions from the Asian region and makes it available to its users without compulsory registration.[2] In addition to basic information such as the original title, alternative title, year of release, genre, relations and content descriptions, you can also find details about the production and the dubbing actors. Furthermore, aniSearch provides various statistics and opinion pieces, such as current trends, polls and a top list.[3]

Information on releases of DVDs, Blu-rays and mangas is also listed. In addition, the site provides information on which video portals you can watch legal streams, e.g. Netflix, Crunchyroll or Wakanim.[4]

New entries or supplementary information on the individual entries can be created by users after prior free registration. These are cross-checked by volunteers and then published on the site.[5]

In addition to database-specific information, visitors can also share their opinions with the community in ratings and comments, as well as manage personal lists.[6]

Since December 2013, aniSearch has offered all content in different language versions. In addition to the German version, there is also an English version. The French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese versions were launched in 2021. The latter two followed a few months later in the year.

Currently, aniSearch provides information on about 17,950 animes, 81,570 mangas and 26,600 TV and film productions from the Asian region. More than 3.4 million reviews have been submitted by registered users. (as of August 2023)[7]

History[edit]

In January 2006, Dominik Koziol founded aniSearch. At that time, the database was only accessible under the domain aniSearch.de. It was created against the background that similar websites existed almost exclusively in the English-speaking world and did not offer their content in German.[8] In addition, many of these portals offered downloads of illegal content, which aniSearch clearly distanced itself from right from the start.[9]

The first major redesign took place on 18 November 2013, when the domain was changed, and several language versions were offered in addition to German. The new version also added a section for Asian film and television productions. Previously, the database was limited to information on anime and manga.

At the beginning of 2016, another redesign took place. In addition to a few innovations, aniSearch is now also optimised for mobile devices. Since July 2018, there has been a partnership with the Sumikai portal.[10] In July 2018, a cooperation with Gamestop has been established.[11]
