Animal Care Lancaster and Morecambe District is an independent charity based in Lancaster that primarily rescues and rehomes dogs, cats, and small domestic animals. It has been a registered charity since 1979[1]. The charity also provides permanent sanctuary to several other species of animal including ex-battery hens, goats, and turkeys, and provides educational experiences to schools and groups.[2]
The mission statement of the charity is:
"To promote kindness and suppress cruelty to animals and attend generally to the welfare of all animals in need of care and attention. To provide a benefit to animals and the community through animal welfare education."[1]

Animal Care relies on public donations, grant applications and fundraising.
Charity Shops
The charity currently has 2 charity shops selling donated second-hand goods, one in Lancaster city centre and one on the site of the animal sanctuary.[3]
Cafe
The cafe, based on the same site as the animal sanctuary, is another source of income for the charity. It is run with help from volunteers and is open 7 days a week.
Governance and Affiliations
The charity is governed by a board of 8 trustees that is elected every 12 months.[1]
The charity is a fully registered member of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH)[4] and also has close connections to a local veterinary practice group, local businesses, and the RSPCA.[2]
