AnimeClick.it is an Italian anime and manga news and social cataloging application web portal run by volunteers.

History[edit]

The site was launched at the end of 1998 as a part of a local web portal called VeronaClick..[1], and has published its first news on 4 October 1999. Since then, the site underwent numerous changes. At first, it had only a news tab, a small glossary and an image gallery updated every week. Later, the website has been supplemented with a forum (later replaced with blogs) and a rich anime and manga database.

On 31 May 2011, the editorial stuff of AnimeClick.it convened at the no-profit learned society Associazione NewType Media[2]. That day, the website founder Andrea Sartori, also known as Tacchan, entrusted the management of the web portal to the association[3].

In October 2011, AnimeClick.it released in the Android Market an app which allows its user to use some of the website features, such as checking the news[4]. Since 2011, the website has started to have an official stand and collaborations with the major Italian conventions, such as Lucca Comics & Games[5], Napoli Comicon[6], Cartoomics[7], Etna Comics[8], Romics[9], NovaLudica The Game Fortress[10], Far East Film Festival in Udine, and has become official Media Partner of some of them[11][12][13].

Since 2015, AnimeClick.it has become a network with the opening of two side websites: one about television series, SerialClick.it, in January 2015[14] (later closed, in January 2019)[15], and one about videogames, GamerClick.it, in June 2015[16].

In 2018, during the Lucca Comics & Games convention, AnimeClick.it hosts the first edition of the AnimeClick Awards[17]. In 2021, AnimeClick.it becomes one of the official Streaming Media Partner of the Lucca Comics & Games edition of that year[18].

Features[edit]

AnimeClick.it offers daily news related to anime and manga. It also has columns that covers topics such as Asian culture, Japan, and animation in general. The website includes threads to accompany each news item for purposes of discussion. AnimeClick.it lists anime (Japanese animation), aeni (Korean animation), and donghua (Chinese animation). Similarly, AnimeClick.it has information on manga (Japanese comics), manhwa (Korean comics), manhua (Chinese comics), and light novels. AnimeClick.it also lists television series and live actions that are based on the medias previously listed, as well as Italian Japstyle comics and non-Asian animation. Users can create lists about which series they want to read, have completed, paused or dropped, as well as lists about which ones they own physically. Users can submit reviews, suggest recommendations, write comments about any specific volume of any edition of a series available in Italian or any sigle episodes of a TV show, create blogs, and post images or comments in the social tab of the website.

Scoring[edit]

AnimeClick.it allows users to score the anime and manga on their list on a scale from 1 to 10. These scores are then aggregated to give each show in the database a complessive rating. Until 2016, a user needed to write a review to score a show, however, the website has later implemented a system that allows every user to score their series directly from their lists or from the show's tab. A show's rank is calculated once a day using the following formula:

The formula relies on four costants that ensure that the rating of a series with a low number of scores and reviews will tend to be closer to the value 7. As the number of scores raises, the weight of the costants on the rating will gradually decrease. Scores paired with a review will impact more on the rating, while scores from a list will count only if the user has more than 100 activity points[19]

The AnimeClick Awards[edit]

The AnimeClick Awards, are annual awards given to recognize the best anime available legally in Italian (subbed or dubbed), manga editions published in Italy, as well as the best publishing companies of the previous year. The awards were first held in 2018. The editorial staff of AnimeClick.it create a list of nominees within each category. This list is then made available to the public for online voting to choose the winners. The winners are then announced during the Lucca Comic&Games[20]
