Ankh is a Belgian film completed in 2022, directed by Patrick J. A. Knight.[1][2][3]

Plot[edit]

The story is largely inspired by the videotravelogue, which newlywed director Patrick and husband Luc captured on MiniDVcassettes during their honeymoon through ancient Egypt in 2007. It was not until many years later that the now largely damaged and decayed video images were carefully restored, edited and edited into a full-fledged feature film.

Ankh begins with the death of Patrick, who is then buried in a sarcophagus. His husband Luc visits him again and causes a miracle. From that moment on and through the eyes of Patrick, the viewer relives a Nilecruise. In nine chapters and at a rapid pace, many sights of interest are brought into view.

The film has no dialogues and is mainly carried by the music of Gravity Noir. Ankh also contains archival footage of Israeli singer Ofra Haza, who died in 2000. Her performance of Im Nin'alu in a new musical arrangement can be heard regularly. As a thread between the chapters and throughout the film, we see Patrick transform from mummy to someone who closely resembles Queen Nefertiti.[4]

Cast[edit]

  • Patrick J. A. Knight as himself.[5]
  • Luc Verlinden as himself.
  • Ofra Haza as the Madonna of the East.[6]

Songs[edit]

The music is by Gravity Noir and the lyrics by Patrick J. A. Knight and Rabbi Shalom Shabazi.

  • "Ankh Travelogue, Pt. 1, 2, 4, 5 (Charles Theme), 6 and 7" - Gravity Noir
  • "Ankh Travelogue, Pt. 3 (Im Nin Alu)" - Ofra Haza
  • "Im Nin Alu" - Gravity Noir and Ofra Haza[7][8]
  • "In Time (Ankh, Travelogue, Pt. 8)" - Gravity Noir (Vocals by Ambrosia Dash)[9][10][11]

Production[edit]

On February 23, 2023, Ankh premiered at the Milano Blackout FilmFest, Milan, Italy, where it won second place as a finalist for the best film without dialogue.[12][13] The Belgian preview premiere took place on March 18, 2023.[14]
