Anomie is the second studio album from the American rock band Fairmont.
Content[edit]
The fourteen-track album was released on compact disc with Reinforcement Records, on 10 December 2003, and includes a CD-ROM video of the song "Sometimes I'm Bitter."[1] The night prior to recording for the original version of Anomie, the entire lineup, except the keyboard player, quit the band. With this change, Neil Sabatino decided to rewrite the planned album, and make "mellow music that has a pop element because that is what I enjoy playing and that is what I sound best singing and playing."[2] Sam Carradori makes her first appearance on a Fairmont record, and appears in the music video for "Sometimes I'm Bitter." The album cover for Anomie was made by a friend, Erica Thilges for her thesis art show.[3] It was digitally reissued with Mint 400 Records, in 2008.
Reception[edit]
In a review for Jersey Beat, Jim Testa says that "Sabatino's voice might at times resemble a lovesick teen in the throes of puberty, but the driving combination of rhythm and lead guitars, snappy but restrained drumming, and tasteful harmony vocals makes Anomie an indie-pop success." He notes "Knock Me Out" as one of his favorites on the disc, sung by acoustic guitarist Kevin Metz. He continues the review by noting "you know you're dealing with a band that took its time writing a real album" and ends by saying "if bubblegum is the soundtrack to puppy love, then Anomie comes dangerously close; but I'd rather be spooning to this than almost anything else I've heard so far in 2004."[4]
Interpunk calls the album "dynamic" and "a classic that is going to stay in your player for weeks on end."[1]
