Anshul Avijit
Anshul Avijit is an Indian politician, who is a member of Indian National Congress. Avijit is serving as national spokesperson of Indian National Congress and is a candidate of the party for the 2024 Indian General Elections from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency. Avijit hails from a political family. His maternal grandfather Jagjivan Ram was Deputy Prime Minister of India, while his mother Meira Kumar was former Speaker of Lok Sabha.[1]
Personal life
Avijit has a PhD from Cambridge University. He studied Indian politics and history. His father, Manjul Kumar, is a Supreme Court of India lawyer, while his mother, Meira Kumar, is a senior politician who represented Sasaram Lok Sabha constituency in Indian parliament. Avijit's maternal grandfather, Jagjivan Ram, was a former Deputy Prime Minister of India and was amongst the stalwarts of Indian National Congress. His grandmother Sumitra Devi was elected multiple times to Bihar Legislative Assembly and earned the distinction of being the first woman cabinet minister in Bihar. Avijit's father belonged to the Kushwaha community of Bihar, while his mother belongs to a Dalit family.[2]
Political career
Avijit was national spokesperson of Indian National Congress and was declared as a candidate for the 2024 Indian General Elections from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency by the party.[3]
