Antonio Lavieri

Antonio Lavieri (18 September 1972, Canicattì, Italy) is an Italian Associate Professor in French linguistics and Translation Studies[1] at the University of Palermo.

Biography[edit]

After his studies at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, he gave courses at the universities of Bergamo, Bologna, Catania, Sassari and Trento, at the Institut Supérieur de Traduction et d'Interprétation (ISIT) in Paris[2] (now Institute of intercultural Management and Communication), at Waterford Institute of Technology[3], at the University of Le Havre[4] and at the universities of Tartu[5], Cape Town[6] and Tangier. He focuses mainly on theoretical, historical, anthropological and epistemological problems of translation. He edited the series about Translation studies Strumenti Nuova Serie[7] (New Series Tools) for the publisher Mucchi from 2009. As founder and co-director of the series Cahiers d’ethnotraductologie (Ethnotraductology Notebooks) for the publisher L'Harmattan, he coordinates the research groups "Génèses de l'altérité: écritures ethnographiques et imaginaires du traduire" (Multilinguisme, Traduction, Création team of the Institut des Textes et Manuscrits Modernes, ENS-CNRS, Paris) and "Traductologie et anthropologie des savoirs" (Traductology and anthropology of knowledge, Documentation and Research Centre for the teaching of the French language at the Italian University).

He also translated the chapter “Theatre” of the book Opere scelte by Paul Valéry for the series I Meridiani (The Meridians), edited by Maria Teresa Giaveri (Mondadori 2014). In 2016 he founded the first Italian Society for Translation studies[8] in Palermo, of which he is chairman.
