Anuj Puri..[1] is an Indian real estate magnate and the Chairman and Founder of ANAROCK Property Consultants[2], one of India's largest independent real estate company with a significant presence in GCC. Known to be a real estate guru, Puri has been instrumental in creating a unique business model to offer an integrated, customized, end-to-end go-to-market strategy to its clients. His radical and disruptive thinking has given him a competitive advantage, especially with the adoption of modern tech and digital platforms since the inception of ANAROCK.
Early Life[edit]
Anuj Puri was born in Delhi, India, and comes from a family who has been involved in the insurance business. Puri completed his schooling at Springdales and attended the country's most prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce while completing studies for his Chartered Accountant license from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He has been given the title of ‘Chartered Insurance Practitioner’ by the Chartered Insurance Institute. He moved to the United Kingdom to complete his further studies at Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and worked for a few years as an insurance surveyor before he returned to India. Puri moved to Mumbai, India to being his career in Real Estate.
Career[edit]
Puri began working in real estate over 30 years ago, and around this time he began his first venture on his own account in insurance. The firm entered into a joint venture with Crawford & Company and became Puri Crawford Insurance Surveyors & Loss Surveyors Pvt. Ltd. The firm thrives to this day taking up insurance claims throughout India. In 1999, Puri became Managing Director of Trammell Crow Meghraj (TCM), which was the most successful real estate consultancy in India then. The firm had around 1000 staff members and operated from 10 offices across the country. In 2007, he steered the merger of Trammell Crow Meghraj with the India operations of Jones Lang LaSalle – now JLL India – which he spearheaded as Chairman & Country Head and a key member of the Asia Pacific Leadership Group and Head of the Global Retail Leasing Board. He was also in charge of overseeing a team of over 9000 employees in 11 cities.
In February 2017, he exited JLL India and in July 2017, he founded ANAROCK Property Consultants in India and GCC[3]. ANAROCK Group is India's leading specialized real estate services company with diversified interests across the real estate value chain in key strategic business units such as Residential Broking & Advisory, Retail, Investment Banking, Hospitality, Land Services, Warehousing, Industrial & Logistics, Investment Management, and Strategic Consulting[4]. Due to his able leadership[5], in less than three years, ANAROCK posted revenue of INR 256 Cr in FY20, a 36% growth from the previous fiscal year[6]. After successfully establishing ANAROCK, Puri launched B2C residential brokerage business – TRESPECT in 2019[7][8]
After operating ANAROCK for more than 3 years, he decided to enter into global partnerships to expand the company’s reach and offer one-stop solutions to the clients. In Sep 2020, ANAROCK partnered with Binswanger to offer innovative solutions, property purchase and leasing strategies, development consultancy, and investment advice for industrial and logistics[9]
Puri is a highly-respected industry veteran and India’s most prominent thought leader[10][11] in the real estate domain. He has over 30 years' expertise in leveraging Indian and global real estate opportunities. Puri is widely acknowledged for revolutionizing the real estate sector[12] with his numerous awards both in India and other countries for his contributions to the real estate sector. With his visionary outlook and technology-based solutions,[13] he has mastered his expertise in planning, undertaking demand assessment studies, and transaction services including marketing strategies based on real estate market analysis, feasibility studies, program requirement derivation, and fund and investor sourcing. He has also been associated with various national and international industry forums in various capacities and serves on multiple public and private company boards. He is currently a director of ANAROCK Investments Advisors Private Limited, ANAROCK Property Consultants Private Limited, ANAROCK Group Business Services Private Limited Jagran Prakashan Limited, Blackstone Group India, Music Broadcast Limited, Embassy REIT[14], Hotelier India Magazine, and Puri Crawford Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors India Private Limited. He is also affiliated with numerous organizations including FICCI, MCHI-CREDAI, and YPO Construction Week India National Advisory Board.
