Anurag sagar is a part of voluminous Kabir Sagar. It is the most famous part of Kabir sagar. It is basically a conversation between Kabir Sahib and his main disciple Dhani Dharamdas.[1]

Etymology[edit]

'Anurag' means 'love' and 'sagar' means 'Ocean'. Thus it means ocean of love.[2]

Synopsis[edit]

In Anurag Sagar, Dhani Dharam Dass questions about the creation of nature and in reply Kabir Sahib has given a complete description of the topic.

Kabir Sahib ji says that Supreme God i.e., Satpurush created the universe through 'Word'. This led to all the creation. First of all, Satpurush created sixteen sons with the word power. One of these sixteen sons was Achint. Satpurush asked Achint to do the rest of the creation and gave him word power. Achint created Akshar Purush (ParBrahm) with the word-power and asked Akshar Purush for help. Akshar Purush went to the pond Mansarover to take a bath. He started enjoying there and fell asleep. He did not come out for a long time. Then, on Achint’s request, to wake Akshar Purush up, KavirDev (Supreme God Kabir) took some nectar from that Mansarover(lake) and created an egg with it. He sent a soul in it and released that egg in the Mansarover(lake). The sound of the egg disturbed Akshar Purush in sleep. He stared at the egg in anger, which broke the egg into two halves. Jyoti Niranjan (Kshar Purush) came out from it. Saints name him 'Kaal' or Brahm.[2] Jyoti Niranjan, then, performed Tap for 70 yugas and obtained in reward a separate creation. Kaal again performed Tap for 64 yugas and obtained a huge number of souls from Satpurush and in collaboration with primal Maya (Shakti/Durga) the three main gods, the Hindu Trinity —Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh — were created.[1]
