Arash Mardani (Persian: آرش مردانی‎, romanized: Āraš-e Mardānī, pronounced [ɒːˈɾæʃ ɛ məɾdãniː]; Born 2 September 1984, in Khorramabad) is a former Iranian wrestler who's 3 times Pahlevan of Iran.[1][2] He received the Iran Pahlavan (Warrior) armband from the hands of Sayed Ali Khamenei and sixth President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.[3][4] Mardani is active in the mixed martial arts and signed to ONE Championship.[5][6]

Martial arts career[edit]

Wrestling[edit]

In 1999, Mardani became the Asian wrestling champion.[7][8] In 2001, he won bronze medalist in the world junior wrestling championship.[9][10] In the following years he retained his best three national ranking and was considered the best in his weight category.[11] In 2005, he won bronze medals of the -96kg international Cup in Kiev.[12][13] Mardani lost the Beijing Olympics in 2008 due to injury.[14] In 2009, 2010 and 2011 he received the Iran Pahlavan armband from the Iran leader, Sayed Ali Khamenei and and former President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.[15] He gave up sports for a while, until he returned to professional sports at the age of 31.[16] He defeated the number one champion of the Basij in 2005 and the #1 champion of Tehran in 2006.[17][18] The same year he injured his back and could not compete in any tournaments.[19]

Mixed martial arts[edit]

In 2019 Mardani officially sign the contract with The ONE Championship.[20][21] On 19 February 2020, He lost the first MMA fight In Singapore.[22][23][24]

Brazilian jiu-jitsu[edit]

Arash Mardani won 8 gold medals in 2019 and 2020 in Siam Cup BJJ and COPA de Bangkok international tournament.[25][26][27] He has a brazilian jiu-jitsu purple belt since May 2021.[28]
