Aremu Oluwaseun Philip commonly known as Philip (born 24 October 1991) is a Nigerian footballer who plays for Salalah SC in the Oman Professional League.[1]

Club career[edit]

Youth career[edit]

Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Philip began his career as a football player when he was 17 years old with Ota-based Covenant Sports Centre where he played till 2012.[2]

Old Edwardians[edit]

Philip began his professional career in Sierra Leone with Sierra Leone National Premier League club Old Edwardians F.C.

Dhofar[edit]

While he was with the Old Edwardians F.C. in Sierra Leone, news speculated that the Nigerian striker was all set to make a move to Europe and more accurately to Sweden. He was first approached by Solna-based, Swedish giants AIK Fotboll, then known as AIK Solna. A couple of weeks later Swedish football manager and the head coach of Degerfors IF, Patrik Werner seemed to show interest in the Nigerian striker after he underwent a week of trials with the Degerfors-based club.[3] However, this agreement failed to materialize[4] and as a result in August 2013, he moved to the Middle East and more accurately to Oman.

He first participated in the 2012 Baniyas SC International Tournament with Dhofar S.C.S.C. He scored a goal in the semi-finals of the tournament in a 3-2 loss against Kuwaiti Premier League side Kuwait SC. After a couple of trials, he caught the eyes of the former Al-Ittihad FC (Saudi Arabia) Croatian manager, Dragan Talajić of the Salalah-based club. Impressed with his strong and agile performance and his goal scoring ability, Dhofar S.C.S.C. offered him a one-year deal and eventually on 13 August 2013, he signed a one-year contract with the nine time Oman League champions.[5] He made his debut and scored his first goal for the club on 18 August 2013 in a 1-0 win over rivals Al-Ittihad Club in his club's first Group Stage fixture in the 2013 Oman Professional League Cup. He made 3 appearances and scored one goal in the 2013 Oman Professional League Cup which included two 1-0 wins over Al-Ittihad Club and a 4-1 win over fierce rivals Al-Nasr S.C.S.C.

He helped his club to secure the 7th position in the 2013–14 Oman First Division League. He also made his Sultan Qaboos Cup debut on 24 November 2013 in a 2-1 win over defending champions, Al-Suwaiq Club.[6] He scored 14 goals in 18 appearances in the 2013-14 Oman First Division League making him the joint top-scorer of the 2013-14 season of Oman First Division League and was also awarded the Salalah SC's "Best Player Award" at the end of the 2013-14 season for his extraordinary performance.

Impressed with his performances for the club, on 22 August 2014, Salalah SC offered the Nigerian a one-year permanent contract. He scored a brace in his very first match in the 2014–15 in a 2-1 win over fierce rivals Mirbat SC. Scoring 18 goals in 24 appearances in the 2014–15 Oman First Division League, he helped his side earn promotion to Oman Professional League, the nation's top-tier, and also won the "Golden Boot" award at the Oman Football Association awards night.[7][8][9][10]

He made his Oman Professional League debut on 13 September 2015 in a 3-1 loss against 2014–15 Oman Professional League and 2014–15 Sultan Qaboos Cup winners, Al-Oruba SC[11] assisting the only goal scored for his side by Ghanim Bait Said and scored his first goal on 17 December 2015 in a 3-2 win over Al-Shabab Club.[12] He also made his first appearance in the 2015–16 Sultan Qaboos Cup and scored his first goal in the competition on 30 December 2015 in a 7-2 win over Oman Second Division League side, Al-Salam SC.[13] He made his first appearance in the 2015–16 Oman Professional League Cup on 5 September 2015 in a 2-1 loss against local rivals, Al-Nasr S.C.S.C. and scored his first goal in the competition on 8 September 2015 in a 1-1 win draw against his former club, Dhofar.
