Arianna Simpson is the founder and managing director of Autonomous partners, a cryptocurrency hedge and venture capital fund focused on investing in cryptocurrencies, digital assets, and blockchain-based companies.[1] She is also General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz as a partner in their $4.5 billion cryptocurrency fund.[2]
Early life and education[edit]
Simpson was born and raised in Milan. She graduated from Penn State University with dual degrees in international politics and Spanish.[3]
Career[edit]
During 2013, Simpson started her career in the technology field when joining Facebook while working in the global marketing solutions division. It was during this time that Simpson was sponsoring a family in Zimbabwe after visiting, in which she noticed the fees that came with transferring money internationally, this developed her interest in the cryptocurrency field.[4]
In 2014, Simpson left her role at Facebook to join the digital asset trust and security company BitGo, Where she worked as an account and project manager.[citation needed] After one year, in 2015, Simpson departed from BitGo and joined Venture Partner Crystal Towers Capital where she is still actively a Venture partner and angel investor.[5]
In 2017, Simpson became the founder and managing partner of the cryptocurrency and digital asset hedge fund Autonomous Partners.[4] Her investments during this time included companies such as Celo, additionally, these investments at the time overlapped with Andreessen Horowitz early crypto investments.[6]
During 2019, Simpson joined the private American venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz as a deal partner, and less than a year in made partner for their cryptocurrency and digital asset fund which as of 2022 is worth $4.7 billion, in which Simpson has been vocal about her investments within Web3 and cryptocurrency assets and company.[6][2]
During 2021, it was announced that Simpson is on the directory board of sports NFT platform Autograph, and aided in raising $170 million in a Series B funding for the organisation.[7]
