Arion Investment Management Limited
Arion Investment Management Limited (frequently referred to as "Arion") is an investment management company based in London, UK that trades actively across various commodities. The company was noted as one of the first players to bet on a turnaround in the commodities markets following a number of big hedge fund closures since 2012.[1]
Arion manages a range of commodities strategies that are run within managed accounts and funds by various experienced portfolio managers.
The company manages the Raptor Commodities Fund, a fund based in Malta that focuses on relative value strategies on commodities with a particular focus on base and precious metals. Arion plans to launch also a Cayman vehicle targeting US investors and is hiring commodity specialists to run additional funds complementary to the relative value strategy traded in the Raptor Commodities Fund.[2] Some notable commodities traders that are supporting the fund, are already referring to Arion as the Commodities Corporation of the 21st century.[3]

The company was founded by Gerardo Tarricone in 2016. Tarricone grew up in Italy and studied at Bocconi University in Milan before moving to London, UK in 2011. After working for some year at Morgan Stanley within the FundLogic division, he decided to leave the bank and moved to Monaco where he went to work with a successful commodities trader. He returned to London, UK in 2015 where he started to trade his own account. During the same year, he approached Darius Tabatabai, an experienced options trader who previously was Global Head of Precious and Base Metals trading at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and previously head of Precious Metals trading at Credit Suisse. Tarricone and Tabatabai started to work together discussing about markets and trading a proprietary account. In 2016, Tarricone created Arion Investment Management Limited with the vision to create an asset manager specialised in commodities strategies.
In 2017, Arion launched its first fund, Raptor Commodities Fund, a commodities fund which employs relative value strategies using options, futures and other derivatives across commodities with a focus on base and precious metals.[4]

Raptor Commodities Fund
Raptor is the first fund managed by Arion. The fund was set up to take advantage of the opportunities that have arisen, post financial crises, with large institutions, market makers and banks having withdrawn liquidity and risk taking capabilities from the commodity space.[5]
Copper arbitrage - Managed account
The strategy exploits arbitrage opportunities between exchanges where copper is traded (e.g. LME/COMEX/SHFE).[6]
