History[edit]

Ajaib was founded by Anderson Sumarli and Yada Piyajomkwan in 2018 when they attended Stanford Graduate School of Business. They were both passionate in improving financial inclusion in Indonesia and was inspired by Stanford University professor and Wealthfront co-founder Andy Rachleff.[9] In Summer 2018, Ajaib joined the famous American seed accelerator Y Combinator.[10][3]

The company came out of Beta in 2019 with a service to help first-time investors invest in mutual funds and plan their financial goals.[11] Ajaib researches and automatically chooses top funds out of 1,800+ funds[12] in Indonesia to offer to customers based on their financial goals.

In 2018, Ajaib received a mutual fund brokerage license[13] and an online investment service license[8] from the Financial Services Authority of Indonesia. The company partners with third parties, including Bank Central Asia, Bank Negara Indonesia and Bank Rakyat Indonesia, to verify and handle all customer funds and the Central Securities Depository of Indonesia to execute trades.

Finances[edit]

The company has raised $2.1 million in funding from SoftBank, Y Combinator, and individuals, including former Sequoia Capital partners Tan Yinglan and Tim Lee.[14]
