The Arkansas–Mississippi State football rivalry is a college football rivalry[1] game between the Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas and the Bulldogs of Mississippi State University.

History[edit]

The Razorbacks and the Bulldogs faced off on the football field for the first time on November 30, 1916 in Memphis, Tennessee.[2] Mississippi State won the game by a score of 20–7.[3] After a 19–0 Mississippi State victory in 1939 in Memphis,[4] the squads didn't meet again until Arkansas joined the Southeastern Conference in 1992.[5] That year, to accompany the arrival of Arkansas and South Carolina, the SEC formed two divisions.[6] Both the Razorbacks and the Bulldogs were placed in the West division, ensuring they will meet every year on the football field.[7] The only tie between the teams occurred in 1993, with both teams locked at 13.[8] The teams went to overtime in 1996 and 2000, with Arkansas winning both games.[9] The biggest margin of victory in the series occurred in 2003, with Arkansas dominating Mississippi State by a margin of 52–6.[10] Overtime games again occurred in 2010 and 2013, with the Hogs winning in 2010 by a margin of 38-31[11] and the Bulldogs coming out on top in 2013 by a score of 24–17.[12] The highest scoring game in the rivalry occurred in 2015, with State prevailing 51–50 in a contest that saw the teams combine for 101 points.[13] The next year, the two teams combined for 100 points in a 58–42 Arkansas victory.[14]
