Arpan Srivastava
Arpan Srivastava (born March 4th, 1998) is the editor-in-chief and co-founder of SatyaVijayi, a news portal based in India. As of September 2017, the site has reached over 40 million users since its inception.[1]
Born in Allahabad, India, Srivastava started SatyaVijavi with Anand Padmanabhan in 2015 at the age of 16.[2] The site focuses on fact-checking and often criticizes mainstream news outlets. Srivastava characterized his approach to journalism as intended to promote nationalism, debunk misrepresentation by the mainstream media, and defend Hindu ideologies.[1]
Controversy[edit]
In 2017, Srivastava published a story about author and political activist Arundhati Roy's criticism of Indian troops in Indian Occupied Kashmir.[3] The story repeated a disputed quote from Roy about the ineffectiveness of the Indian military, which was originally cited on the Times of Islamabad news website.[4] Srivastava and SatyaVijayi were criticized by a number of competing news outlets as fake news[5], with Bharat Nayak of The Logical Indian calling for the site's closure.[6]
