Background and arrests[edit]
Vincent Boon Falleur and Idesbald van den Bosch were arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during travel to Iran as tourists interested in exploring landscapes by bicycle On September 5, 2010.[3] They were suspicion of espionage after having entered, without their knowledge, "a military zone where they also took photographs".[4][5]
In Evin Prison, they meet and speak one of the 3 American mountaineer who's arrested by Iran border guards.[6][7] Americans Shane Bauer, Sarah Shourd and Josh Fattal were arrested on July 31 while hiking a trail in Iraq that crisscrossed the unmarked border with Iran.[8][9] van den Bosch said:
"I'm worried for their well-being because I know the effect solitary confinement has on me. It was rather difficult. I only spent one month in solitary confinement. Do, for them, it must be awful."[10][11]
Released[edit]
On December 8, 2009, Vincent Boon Falleur and Idesbald van den Bosch released.[12] After released they said:
"The psychological stresses of detention were very great, especially during interrogation and solitary confinement. The pressure during interrogation was psychological. In solitary confinement, we were in cells with no outside contact and a ceiling light on day and night. We could not make eye contact with some guards and other prisoners; no communication was possible with other prisoners or with our families. Everything was designed to make us feel very lonely. I think they're innocent and I think they've spent enough time in prison and in solitary confinement. The psychological stresses of detention were very great, especially during interrogation and solitary confinement. The pressure during interrogation was psychological. In solitary confinement, we were in cells with no outside contact and a ceiling light on day and night."[10]
