Art Ducko is a free student comics magazine at the University of Oregon.

Creation[edit]

The creation of Art Ducko was spearheaded by Alex Milshtein, who served as the magazine's first Editor-in-chief. He approached Benjamin Saunders (professor), an English teacher at the University of Oregon who specializes in Comics studies, in 2014 about the idea. In an interview with the Daily Emerald, Milshtein said his major inspiration for the publication was Mad (magazine). [1] The two went on to recruit other students who would contribute to and edit the magazine.

Support for Art Ducko came from UO's English department, the UO Cultural Forum and the Digital Arts Program. Printing of the magazine was funded by Saunders out of his own pocket.[2] Today, the publication is an official ASUO student group.[3]

Content[edit]

Art Ducko is a black and white booklet, filled with student submitted content. Each issue includes several long form comics spanning up to eight pages in length, several short comic strips of a few panels in length, an essay regarding a comic related topic (usually around 2,300 words in length[4]) and typed up transcript from interview with professional Cartoonist. All comics and articles in the publication are contributed by UO students for free.

The first two issues of Art Ducko were 32 pages in length, with all other issues since being 40 pages.
