An "artist's artist" is a term used to describe an artist who is commonly cited or referenced by artists but is relatively unknown to the general public. Some examples include Cy Twombly,[1] Paul Thek, Marcel Duchamp, Bas Jan Ader, Don Music, and Mike Kelley etc.
