Ascent Vision Technologies (AVT) is a US-based in Montana defence equipment facilitating company that develops computer vision algorithms, airborne and counter drone systems for the military.[1][2]

History[edit]

Ascent Vision Technologies was established in 2015 as a sister company to Bridger Aerospace to develop gyro-stabilized imaging systems for real-time aerial wildfire surveillance and mapping.[3][4]

In 2017, AVT grew into an independent organization to supply technology solutions to defense and commercial customers. CACI International acquired AVT in August 2020.[5]

The company has six offices and two independent production facilities. Tim Sheehy serves as the CEO of AVT with Lee Dingman as the President and CCO.[3][6][7]

Current operations[edit]

AVT is headquartered at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport in Belgrade, Montana. Its APAC headquarters is based in Melbourne, Australia, to support AVT's contracts with the Australia Defence Force (ADF).[8][4] AVT's Australian footprint started as a partnership with one of its suppliers, UAV Vision (founded by Michael Bailey). This led to the acquisition and forming of AVT Australia in 2018. [9]

AVT's systems are used by the U.S. Military across multiple departments, the Australian Defence Force, and international companies in the defense, aerospace, and unmanned systems industries. AVT's counter-drone system serviced the destruction of an Iranian drone in the Straits of Hormuz in July 2019.[10][11] AVT has secured U.S. Department of Defense and international contracts for counter UAS (CUAS); air defense; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). AVT has provided defense equipment to the US Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, US Special Operations Command, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Australian Defense Force, the Defence Technology Institute of Thailand, and customers in Saudi Arabia. [12][13][14]

In March 2020, AVT delivered units of the eXpeditionary Mobile Air Defense Integrated System (X-MADIS) to a U.S. DoD customer. CACI International acquired the company in August 2020.

Partnerships and agreements[edit]

In May 2017, Silent Falcon UAS Technologies partnered with AVT for the supply of gimbal payloads. It also signed a contract with the U.S Airforce in August 2019. AVT Australia signed the Defence Innovation Hub's Micro Gimbal contract in 2018. In June 2020, the company entered into an agreement with a United States Department of Defense for the supply of ground-based imaging systems. In the same year, the company received a contract from the Defence Technology Institute (DTI) of Thailand.[4][15]

Awards and recognition[edit]

In 2020, AVT was named No. 254 in the 2020 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies.[16]
