Asgaard (PMC)
Asgaard German Security Group GmbH is a German Private Military Contractor, based in Telgte near Münster. Asgaard is one of the oldest German mercenary companies; the CEOs are Petja Stoy and Dirk Gaßmann. Because being a mercenary is prohibited by German law, two employees of Asgaard were judged at Landgericht Münster and acquitted for lack of evidence in 2017.
History
The company name Asgaard is based on the myth of the home of the god Asgard as part of the Heathenish-Germanic mythology. The exact number of employees of the company is not known. The company had 100 employees in 2010, according to the weekly newspaper "Freitag".[1] The company was founded by Thomas Kaltengärtner, a former main field weaver of a Bundeswehr tank grenadier battalion.
The chairman of the Bundeswehr's reservist association, Gerd Höfer, asked Kaltengärtner in a letter in 2014 to resign from the association.
