Ashish Manchanda

Ashish Manchanda is an entertainment business entrepreneur, recording engineer and music producer in India and the US, known for his work with Bollywood and independent music production.[1] He is the co-founder of Boon Castle Media & Entertainment and Flying Carpet Productions.[2]

Manchanda is featured in music producer/engineer Bruce Swedien's book, In the Studio with Michael Jackson. He is a 4 time recipient of the IRAA (Indian Recording Arts Award). Ashish is co-founder of the award-winning sound engineering & music production institute The Media Tribe.

Early life and education[edit]

Manchanda was born in New Delhi. He graduated as valedictorian from Full Sail University[1] in Winter Park, Florida, and is a 2015 Hall Of Fame inductee [2]. Manchanda was an early member and the drummer of the Indian rock band, Agni. As a musician he won "best drummer" at I.I.T Institutes Mumbai & Delhi, S.R.C.C. College in Delhi. In 1987 Manchanda met his first mentor well-known music producer and drummer Ranjit Barot and has since worked with him closely.

Career[edit]

Manchanda has worked with music composers, producers and artists Amit Trivedi, A. R. Rahman, Vishal-Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Ram Sampath, Bruce Swedien, Ranjit Barot, Rex Rideout, Lesle Lewis and Clinton Cerejo among others. Manchanda has been the audio turnkey director for Coke Studio (India), MTV Unplugged (India), where he also mixed and mastered music. He has been part of the series The Dewarists and Chivas Studio. He has been associated with popular music festivals NH7, Jaipur Literature Festival, Kabir Festival . His company has been a part of Beauty and the Beast (musical), India. He has been the re-recording mixer & sound designer for celebrated movie director Dibakar Banerjee's national award-winning movies Khosla Ka Ghosla and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!. He is closely associated with Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.

In India he has composed, produced and remixed songs for the movies Mithya, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Acid Factory, Hello Zindagi. Ashish works with and actively supports the independent music scene. He has produced and/or co-produced albums by Mihir Joshi Band (Album "Mumbai Blues" won the GIMA Award for Best Rock Album in 2015), Sky Rabbit, Manasi Scott, Avial, The Local Train, Alif and has mixed the music for the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He was the audio consultant for the music performance venue & soundlabs, Blue Frog.

Ashish has played a part in numerous movie soundtracks. Among them: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Rockstar, No One Killed Jessica, Chillar Party, Shaitan, Aisha, Dev D, Oye Lucky, Aamir, Om Shanti Om, Dhoom-2, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Corporate, Golmaal, Krrish, Zinda, Salaam Namaste, White Noise, Page-3, Masti, Chameli, Deewangee, Asoka, Aks, Fiza and others

Manchanda has worked on indie albums by Ranjit Barot (Bada Boom), Raghu Dixit (Jag Changa),[3] Divine Raaga (I'm Divine Raaga),[4] Agam (The Inner Self Awakens), Faridkot, Avial, Brahma, Gaurav (College Days), Sona (Awarded best Mix Engineer), Abhijeet Sawant, Shaan (Tishnagi), Metakix, Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash, Indian Idol, Viva (Reloaded), Shankar Mahadevan and Javed Akhtar's "Nine." Other projects include Vande Mataram-2 feat Lata Mangeshkar and Femina Miss India.

He has also been an integral player in many popular advertising campaigns by Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Hero Honda, Coke, Pepsi, Smirnoff, Siyaram, Eveready, Heinz, Ceat, Red Tape Shoes, & Mahindra Scorpio.

Ashish is known to break in new talent and has helped develop the careers of artists Alif, Abhijeet Srivastava and The Local Train Amongst others.

He has been the live mix engineer for Oscar and Grammy winning artist A. R. Rahman.

In the US, Ashish has worked closely with five time Grammy winning producer/engineer, Bruce Swedien (Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Jennifer Lopez, Duke Ellington, et al.). He also worked with the Spanish artist Ana Torroja as well as the girl group "Les Go" from the Ivory Coast of Africa, as well as on songs for the Indo-Italian Film, 'Senso-Unico'. He has done session work with Jim Peterik from the band 'Survivor' (Eye of the Tiger) and has also recorded with Rex Rideout. Ashish has worked for Effanel Music in Manhattan, New York where he has worked with the likes of artists as Garth Brooks, Wynton Marsalis, Boz Scaggs, James Taylor, and Verve Records. He has been associated with Big-Band performances at Avery Fisher Hall and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York. During this time he also worked on the TV shows MTV Unplugged & VH-1 Storytellers. Once offered an engineering position at Skywalker Sound, the premier audio facility of George Lucas, he moved to the New York area to join his mentor Bruce Swedien. Ashish has been the crew chief, system tech. & the F.O.H. (Front-Of-House) engineer at 'Platinum Post' in Winter Park, Florida. It was there where he did session work for basketball player Shaquille O'Neal's record.
