The Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education (AALHE) is professional association for those with a professional interest in the field of assessment in higher education, including practitioners, faculty, and students.[1][2] The AALHE works to promote the use of student learning outcomes assessment in higher education to help institutions improve teaching and learning.[3]

Publications[edit]

The AALHE publishes a quarterly journal, Intersection, which features news within the organization, short articles, and interviews on the practice of assessment in higher education.

History[edit]

According to the website Assessment Commons, the AALHE is a "professional association for higher education assessment practitioners" which "became available to the assessment community in 2010."[4] Members of the organization gain access to "links to other assessment resources and presentations from previous AALHE conferences;" "opportunities for interaction about assessment issues, via topic-specific webinars;" Intersection, the organization's quarterly publication; and information about the organization's events.[5]

The organization was founded by Robert T. Mundhenk, a visiting scholar at the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.[6] The association hosts annual conferences for assessment practitioners. In an interview with the Chronicle for Higher Education, Mundhenk stated that a main focus of the yearly conference is “getting assessment professionals to exchange ideas with one another.” [6]
