Aude Herlédan; born on 27 December 1966 in Paris, is a French contemporary artist.[1] She lives and works in Paris.
Life[edit]
After spending her childhood in Kinshasa, Congo, she obtained her baccalaureate in London, at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle. Aude Herlédan graduated from the École Estienne in 1989, in the graphic arts section, and began her career in New York, where she won the Parsons School of Design competition. Her childhood in the Congo intrinsically tied Aude to Africa. She carried out photographic missions in Nairobi, Kenya for the UN and created a photographic laboratory for Kenyan journalists.
Back in France, in 1992, she explored painting and nude drawing at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris and completed her academic training at the École du Louvre. Contemporaneously, Aude created her first sculpture studio and became known for her abstract paintings. Her white monochromes and colorful compositions have made her reputation among collectors. In 2013, she and her husband Jean-Louis created the 1831 gallery in Paris, rue de Lille. "1831 is the year of publication of our favourite novels, Le Rouge et le Noir and La Peau de chagrin." As part of the Carré Rive Gauche in 2018, she participated in the exhibition "Vibrato ". The following year, the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte redecorated the Presidential Suite of the Hôtel Lutetia in Paris and chose to hang an abstract painting by Aude Herlédan. Her work is exhibited at major contemporary art fairs: solo show at Art Paris in 2020, Modern Art Fair in Paris in 2021, Salon du Dessin in 2022, Brafa in Brussels with Galerie Rosenberg & Co in 2022.
Painting and sculpture are inseparable for Aude. She also works with ceramics, textile creations and, since 2022, glass. Her abstract and figurative creations are inspired by her encounters and her travels and are marked by her childhood and her life in Africa. All her sculptures pay tribute to women. The female condition - illustrated by freedom, maternity and femininity - is a central theme in Aude's work.
