Playing career[edit]

Syracuse Stampede[edit]

Austin began his post-high school career by joining the North American 3 Hockey League's Syracuse Stampede for two seasons. There, he made his debut in New York by playing in 40 games, and tallying 5 assists in that span with a PIM +/- of +24.[3] That same year, in which the Stampede were still under the Northern States Hockey League, Austin proceeded to win the playoff championship against the Lake George Fighting Spirit (now the L/A Fighting Spirit).[4] After his first season, he then went on to play 38 games in his second season with the Stampede, tallying 6 assists and a PIM +/- of +77.[5] In those two years, he also tallied one assist each year in the playoffs for a combined two points in tournament play.[6]

Stratford Cullitons[edit]

Austin proceeded to move to Ontario, Canada where he would play for the Stratford Cullitons (now the Stratford Warriors). This would be the start to a two-year career in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). From 2014-2015, he played in 37 games and tallied 1 goal and 8 assists that year.[7] Stratford proceeded to lose in the Cherrey Cup Final that year[8] - Austin never got a chance to redeem himself for a championship as his career carried on to another team in the GOJHL.

Listowel Cyclones[edit]

Austin peaked during his stint in Listowel, another team that is a part of the GOJHL, tallying 46 total games, two goals, and twelve assists.[9] He finished third in scoring for Cyclones' blue liners and finished his junior hockey career with 83 career games in the GOJHL, three goals, and 20 total assists.[10] He also tallied 78 games in the NSHL with 11 assists as a defenceman.[11]

Calvin College[edit]

Austin enters into his freshman year at Calvin College, with a hockey team that is part of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.[12] He is regarded as one of the top recruits as freshman and will play alongside his brother, Alex Huizenga.
