Ava Capri
Ava Capri is an American actress. They are best known for their role as Lucy in the second and third seasons of Hulu's Love, Victor.[1][2] and as Carissa[3] in the Netflix teen dark comedy Do Revenge[4][5]
Early life
Born Ava Capri Palazzolo in Los Angeles, California[6]. Capri identifies as queer and came out after high school[1][6][5]. Capri uses the pronouns "she/they"[7].
Career
After appearing in a handful of commercials, Capri landed an episode of Parks and Rec directed by Amy Poehler[8]. They then starred in short films and the pilot for a series that later was released as a television film called Staties[9] directed by Rob Bowman.
Capri broke out in 2021 with their supporting performance as Lucy, Andrew (Mason Gooding)'s rebound girlfriend, in the second season of Love, Victor . They reprised the character as a lead role in season three, after sparking a connection with Lake (Bebe Wood) in the season two finale. Lucy and Lake's burgeoning relationship became a major plot point in the show's final season.[10]. Capri spoke to The Wrap about the importance of a character like Lucy, who is comfortable with her queer sexuality in high school, saying, "I really love their story and that we get to see it from [its] origin — from that night that they really connected and to see how it evolved. It means so much to me. I wasn’t out when I was in high school, and getting to play a character that is out in high school was a really interesting experience for me. I really hope that it has a positive impact in letting people see a reflection of themselves on the screen.”[11] Reviewing the season for The A.V. Club, Manuel Betancourt singled out the strength of Capri's contribution to the ensemble cast[12]. Multiple reviews[10][13] cited Wood and Capri's chemistry as worthy of a spin-off, with Sabrina Barr of Metro.co.uk writing "Love, Lucy does have a nice ring to it…"[10]
In 2021 Capri was cast in the pivotal role of Carissa.[14] whose vicious rumor years earlier prompts the exchanging of revenge plots between Eleanor (Maya Hawke) and Drea (Camila Mendes) in Jennifer Kaytin Robison's Do Revenge in 2021[15]. For their performances in season three of Love, Victor and Do Revenge, Capri was listed as one of Who What Wear's Ones to Watch for the Summer of 2022[16]. Also in 2022, Capri co-starred with Ciara Riley Wilson in popular Canadian YouTuber and actress Elle Mills' short film directorial debut Reply. The LGBTQ short screened at the 2022 Cleveland International Film Festival[17] and is set to premiere on the streaming platform Creator+[18]
