Personal life[edit]
He is married to politician and Member Parliament, Asiya Azeem, and is the father of two sons and a daughter.[3][4]
Career[edit]
Journalism[edit]
Azeem has previously been a columnist for Jang Media Group.[5]
Politics[edit]
During the 1993 General Elections, Azeem filed his candidature for Provincial Assembly of the Punjab seat PP-116 (Lahore) but he retired prior to the polling day.[6]
Sam Pender in his book 'How Did It Come to This: America's Experience in the New World Order' has quoted Azeem to have said on 3.11.2003 that, "....Pakistan will abstain from voting at the UN Security Council for resolution that will approve war with Iraq." [7][8]
Julius Salik in his book 'Peace Journey' acknowledges the efforts of Azeem for the enforcement of Human Rights including basic rights of slum dwellers in Islamabad. Azeem lobbied for their rights within his government and managed to arrange an Rs. 4 billion grant which was received by Capital Development Authority to end the miseries of the slum dwellers in Islambad.[9][10]
He contested the 2008 General Elections independently from Islamabad after being denied a party ticket from PML-Q.[11]
During his 2008 election campaign he sought the disqualification of the Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan candidate, Mian Aslam. Azeem highlighted that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had taken up SUO MOTO proceeding against a Company in which Mian Aslam held ownership. Azeem pointed out that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had reprimanded the company and imposed a fine on the owners for importing poultry feed containing pork meat. Consumption of pork is against the injunctions of Islam. Azeem contended that a person who claims to be associated with a pro-Islamic party is involved in such prohibited business, how is he contesting election for the National Assembly.[12][13]
