BCE Flamee is an American rapper, singer, and composer from the South Side of Chicago, Illinois.[1] He released his debut album, Guns 'n Roses, in 2022.[2]

Life and career

BCE Flamee was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and moved to Chicago around 2007, living first in the LeClaire Courts housing project and later on the city's South Side. In a 2022 interview, he stated he was raised in a "music-oriented family" with gospel, R&B, and blues influences and began making music at age 11. He also commented that musicians from Chicago were often assumed to be part of the drill music scene, a perception he sought to counter.[1]

His cousin, the rapper FBG Duck (Carlton Weekly), was killed in August 2020. BCE Flamee has referred to his cousin as a mentor who encouraged his musical work. The name "BCE" is a reference to Big Clout Entertainment, a label Weekly was reportedly creating before his death, which Flamee adopted to honor his cousin's legacy.[1][2]

In February 2022, his single "Noticed" was included on Vocalo Radio's "Poised To Break Through" playlist.[3] On April 11, 2022, he released his debut album, Guns 'n Roses, for which "Noticed" was the lead single. He signed with Alife Music, a label run by a director named Eesh, whom he had known since he was 12.[1] His single "War Scars" was added to Vocalo's on-air rotation in May 2022.[2][4]

Artistry

BCE Flamee has stated that he creates music with "melodic cadences" and focuses on lyrics based on "true events" from his personal life rather than on subject matter he has not personally experienced, such as extreme wealth.[1] He identified the subject of his singles "Noticed" and "No More (Fake Love)" as being inspired by encounters with "fair-weather friends and fake fans." In a 2022 interview, he said his motivation was for listeners to relate to the personal experiences detailed in his music. He also outlined his career goals as increasing his audience size and becoming recognized as a distinct artist from Chicago.[1]
