BGF Ventures is a London, UK-based venture capital firm that invests early-stage, primarily in UK-based technology and Internet startup companies.[1][2]
BGF Ventures is a subsidiary of BGF, the Business Growth Fund, with £2.5B of capital under management. The firm claims to be the second most active venture capital fund in the UK in 2016.[3]
History[edit]
BGV Ventures was founded in May 2015 to augment the reach of Business Growth Fund with a focus on smaller, more technology driven companies. They recruited a team of former venture capitalists to specialize in these investments, taking a minority non-controlling stake versus the typical private equity method of investing for controlling stakes in companies.[4]
Awards[edit]
In November 2016, the fund was awarded the Alternative Funder of the Year award as well as the Private Equity/Venture Capital Deal of the Year award at the Insider Central and East of England Dealmakers Awards 2016.[5]
Partners[edit]
The partners of the firm are Simon Calver, formerly CEO of Lovefilm and Mothercare,[6][7] Harry Briggs,[8] previously at Balderton Capital,[9] and Rory Stirling, previously a partner at MMC Ventures.[10]
Investments[edit]
BGF Ventures has invested in 13 startups since its inception in 2015.[11] Notable investments have included:
