BVS Performance Solutions is a technology company that provides training, consumer financial education and video communication tools to retail banks, community banks and credit unions in the US.

The company is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As of 2015, BVS serves 300,000 individuals in over 1000 financial institutions.[1]

History[edit]

In 1975, Roy Karon, a former broadcast journalist, founded Videa, Ltd. to provide video-based training for Fortune 1000 companies, capitalizing on the rapid adoption of portable video technology.

Videa, Ltd. began working with financial institutions in 1977. In 1982, Karon created a separate company, Bankers Video Service, Inc. (BVS), which focused solely on this burgeoning market. The move came in light of major changes to the industry, namely deregulation, the expansion of branch banking, the entry of non-bank businesses into the space and, later, re-regulation.

As BVS grew steadily over the next decade, the decision was made in 1992 to wind down Videa and focus solely on serving financial institutions.

Over time, BVS has adapted its delivery mechanisms for training in line with the technology habits of financial institutions.

Beginning as a subscription-based lending service for video-based courses, the company moved through DOS-based, PC-based and network-based training and into the web-based model that exists today.

Products and Services[edit]

BVS tailors its products to the prevailing issues and needs of financial institutions. Recently, the company has actively promoted the emergence of a ‘universal banker’ model of staffing,[2] as banks deal with the fallout of declining consumer visits to branches.[3]

Core products and services include:

• BVS Dynamic Learning – a complete training and learning management system

• BVS QuickLearn – consumer financial education resources

• BVS ClickBranch (in development) – video banking technology
