Badr bin Abdul Muhsin Al Saud (Arabic: بدر بن عبد المحسن آل سعودBadr bin ʿAbd al Muḥsin Āl Suʿūd; born 29 April 1949) is a Saudi royal and poet who is the President of the Saudi Society for Culture and Arts. Badr's works have been performed by many prominent Saudi artists. He has performed readings in Saudi Arabia and in the Gulf States. In 2019, King Salman bin Abdulaziz presented him with the King Abdul Aziz Sash.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Badr was born on 29 April 1949 in Saudi Arabia. He is a son of Prince Abdul Muhsin and Wahha bint Al Hamoud Al Rasheed Al Shammari. His brothers are Saud and Walid.[2] Badr studied primary stages between Saudi Arabia and Egypt and intermediate stages at Queen Victoria School in Alexandria, Egypt. He studied secondary school in Riyadh, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Badr has collaborated with many composers, including Siraj Omar Muhammad Shafiq Sami Ihsan and Abd al-Rab Idris. Among the singers who sang his poems were Talal Maddah, Muhammad Abdo, Abbadi Al-Jawhar, Abdul Majeed Abdullah, Khaled Abdul-Rahman, Abdullah Al-Ruwaished, Kazem Al-Saher, Saber Al-Rubai, and Rashid Al-Majid.

In March 2021, the Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority announced its intention to collect and print the complete literary works of Badr, on the initiative of the Saudi Minister of Culture, Prince Badr bin Abdullah.

Positions[edit]

In 1973, he was appointed president of the Saudi Society for Culture and Arts, and he was appointed head of poetry organization in Saudi Arabia.

Evening soiree[edit]

His first evening soiree was at the Saudi Al-Ittihad Club in Jeddah, followed by many evenings in the Emirates, Bahrain, Riyadh, and Al-Ahly Club in Jeddah, and he is the supervisor of many national works in writing texts, the last of which is the Janadriyah Festival.

  • The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) honored him in 2019, coinciding with the occasion of World Poetry Day, for his unique artistic and cultural poetic contributions, which spanned more than 40 years.
  • The General Entertainment Authority honored him in 2019 AD on a night whose title was (The Night of Prince Badr Bin Abdul Mohsen: Half a Century and the Badr Is Complete).The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority, Turki bin Abdul Mohsen Al Al Sheikh, announced the naming of the theater built specifically for this occasion the theater of Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen.
