Bae Joo-hyun (Hangul: 배주현; born March 29, 1991), known by the stage name Irene, is a South Korean singer and dancer. She is the leader and the 'pink color holder' of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet.
Biography[edit]
Irene was born in Daegu, South Korea on March 29, 1991.
In 2009, Irene was cast into S.M. Entertainment. She is skilled in rap and modern dance.[2]
Career[edit]
S.M. ROOKIES[edit]
Irene was previously promoted by S.M. Entertainment through its pre-debut group, S.M. ROOKIES, along with fellow Red Velvet members Seulgi and Wendy. She was officially revealed to be a part of the S.M. ROOKIES Project on December 9, 2013, together with other trainees Lami & Jaehyun.[3]
SM Town, S.M. Entertainment's official YouTube channel, released clips of the group, including a video of Irene and fellow Red Velvet member Seulgi performing a dance number titled "Be Natural".[4]
Red Velvet[edit]
Irene made her official debut with Red Velvet on August 1, 2014. [5][6]
Promotions[edit]
In 2013, she was featured as the female lead in both SHINee's music video for "Why So Serious?" and Henry Lau's music video for "1-4-3 (I Love You)".
In 2014, before her debut with Red Velvet, Irene was in the February issue of "The Celebrity Magazine" with current fellow Red Velvet member Seulgi and two other S.M. Rookies, Taeyong and Johnny. Irene was also featured in the July 2014 issue of 'MAPS Magazine' with current fellow members Seulgi and Wendy.
