BairFind is a non-profit organization that generates leads and tips in the search for missing children. They primarily display signs in minor league baseball stadiums, but they are expanding to new sports and public places. The name "BairFind" comes from the name of the founder, Dennis Bair.
History[edit]
Dennis Bair first got the idea for BairFind while pitching in the Chicago Cubs Minor League system. He started the organizing poster giveaways at minor league baseball games from 2001-2010. In 2011, they launched the "bring home 100" campaign. They gained even more attention when in 2012, they partnered with the Pittsburgh Pirates. A player for the Pirates, Neil Walker, directed the fans attention on the big screen to profiles of missing children.
In 2013, Dennis Bair worked closely with the Dejesus family to help locate Gina Dejesus. Bair was then featured in many media outlets in Pittsburgh. He is currently partnered with the Degner family, working to bring home their lost family member, Mark Degner.
In 2014-2015, BairFind launched the concourse sign project. They place A-frames with profiles of missing children on the concourse of Minor League Baseball stadiums. Of the children featured on the signs, approximately 2700 of the 3500 children have been found.
In 2018, the first high school club was started to support BairFind at Ponte Vedra High School. Since, then more clubs have opened up at Nease High School and Titusville High School. The clubs fundraise for BairFind and get the youth involved in the search for missing children. Starting in late April of 2021, BairFind plans to send signs to approximately 270 schools in Colorado.
